Reducing the impact of COVID-19 through Catch Improvement

White River Fish Sanctuary

Project Description

Fisherfolk of the DFHA were negatively affected by COVID-19 as they lost the ability to fish due to imposed restrictions in movement. The loss of fishing gear greatly increased as pots, nets, boats etc were left out at sea for several months.

Project Outcomes

Direct impact to 20 members of the DFHA, their families, surrounding cookshops and hotels.
A GPS system was also purchased to improve navigation to areas more suitable for fishing.
New fishing pots were built and handed over to the fishermen.
